Default (WR)Major Tstorm event - Sheffield (Unbelievable Storm)

It certianly did spring out of nowhere. Looked out the window and saw what
looked like dissipating cumulus. 20 minutes later there was constant
rumbling of thunder. Was very slow moving, I think it died out before moving
away completely. Best thunderstorm this year

Cheers

After a mostly dry and sunny day CBs started to develop late
afternoon. It looked like the clouds were dissipating early in the
evening but then I saw a double anvil. As I drove towards I saw a
stunning CB which quickly sparked off giving frequent sheet and fork
lightning as the cloud exploded into like and developed with
unbelievable speed. Lightning was so close at times I could see sparks
fly, as it must have hit near by power lines for the super tram. It
went from daylight to darkness in seconds as too did it go from dry to
torrential rain with droplets of massive proportions. Two minutes down
the road close to woodhouse it was dry again but more lightning of
purple and blue now not the yellow of earlier. The rain started again
and this time was even heavier water came up from manholes like
fountains. Roads were rivers and very scary to drive through flooded
out junctions almost got stuck.

My thoughts go out to those in Cornwall who have had it even worse the
up here I now have an idea how scary it must be for them.
