Not sure how long this has been here, but on the excellent Météociel
site he-
http://www.meteociel.fr/modeles/archives/archives.php
there is a facility to recall data from the NCEP 'Reanalysis' project,
from 1950. Now I know that Wetterzentrale.de have had such for some
time, but that site only has data for 00Z and for three fields (850T
on one chart & 500 gp/PMSL on another).
The Météociel archive has output for both 00Z and 12Z and for the
following fields (covering the North Atlantic/Europe-Mediterranean
region)
... 500 hPa gp, PMSL
... 850T, sig 850 windflow
... 200 hPa 'jet' flow (might not be the jet of course but a good
proxy)
... 850T & 'significant' thickness (or Relative Topography) isopleths.
You can plot all the charts at once, or each one individually.
There are also options for some fields covering the entire Northern
Hemisphere; however, I can only get a response for the last few
years - it may be that the database is under development for this
function.
Incidentally, this site is really superb: look for example at the
output available for broad-scale guidance on model output he-

If folk in the south want cheering up, have a look at the latest ECMWF
output :-)
