This is from our website this morning Nick, with a reference to the
warmth of last night:

"Although rather wet and cloudy, this month will end with temperatures
around the average for our region, probably 0.2C above the 30-year
mean temperature for August, although temperatures by day have been
1.0C below normal.

Warm cloudy nights have made up the difference of course; last night
for example, was the warmest August night (min = 17.8C) for four years
in Coventry (19.5C minimum in 2004) - with records dating back to
1892, only 6 August months have had minimum overnight temperatures as
high as last night."
