I'm thinking of using balloons as a technique for political activism.
Mainly an Americans first anti-globalist theme with specifics such as
illegal immigration.
Some of the ideas include:
Regular sized balloons with a string and a tag with message.
Those very large "Latex" balloons or perhaps a proper weather
balloon.....those that one sees at car dealers and grand openings with
a large visible message from the ground. Using a stick if you will at
the bottom hanging the message, drawing or photo.
One specific idea is to release 1000 balloons across the river from NJ
into Manhattan's downtown financial district.

Somewhere between the "X's" getting as close as possible to the Yahoo
balloon.
Another would be a large latex or weather balloon flying over a GOP or
DNC gala.
Now for the problems. Where can I buy large latex or weather balloons
and the Helium to go with it. Party stores only sell the smaller
rubber or mylar balloons.
And of course the most problematic, the weather. How do I make an
educated guess as to where the balloons will end up. Keeping their
height to a lower lever using the larger latex.
I know the weather in the Summer is highly variable but perhaps a
formula to make a guess as to where they would end up.
Including wind speed, distance and direction.

Releasing balloons into the atmosphere is not a very good idea.
Balloons can travel long distances and if you are near the oceans the
balloons will be just another instance of ocean pollution. They can
be harmful to creatures in the sea when they land. Once you release
the balloon you will have no control over where it ends up. If you
want to make a political statement put a sign on yourself and walk the
streets. Using balloons is a rather cowardly way of doing things.
You may also be breaking local laws if that is any concern to you.
