... it's not the *newsgroup* - that has been reasonably active all the
while; I see you are a Demon customer: I understand there have been
problems with the Demon newsfeed - there have been some posts on this
subject but in essence I understand that Demon news-servers are not
doing very well :-(

There is, however, a potential problem with Google Groups. A couple of
months ago, a number of spammers started to use Google Groups to spam
newsgroups with adverts, mainly for shoes from China and surrounding
countries. Google either couldn't or wouldn't do anything to stop this
spamming so a large number of usenet users (myself included) now block
anything from Google Groups.

I only saw the OP because it had been replied to and not snipped. Using
Google Groups means you may not be talking to the whole of usenet.
