Off topic for this NG, I know, but related to the above and
nevertheless enlightening (it was for me, anyway!) - in one year on
the UK railway network:

25,000 carriage windows were smashed.
13,500 seats were slashed.
13,000 luggage racks were rendered useless.
3,500 mirrors were stolen or smashed.

The year in question was... 1944. Just goes to show.
