The maximum temperature was reached during the early hours. It was
only around 6C most of yesterday during daylight hours. This is the
3rd lowest maximum temperature this year, and the lowest since the
summer.
Have you ever recorded a freezing day there, and if not, has there
*ever* been one recorded in Penzance?

I haven't recorded a freezing day, however they have occured, though
normally require an easterly gale.
I think the last freezing day was in January 1987. On 12th January
1987, (I was up in Wiltshire at that time) there was (according to the
MetO) 39cm of lying snow in Penzance, and over 20cm on Scilly. I
suspect PE has got some actual figures. This was ceratinly the
heaviest fall in Penzance since 1947 ( Morrab Gardens, Penzance 1947
http://members.tripod.com/morrablect...garden%202.jpg ) In
1963 the heavy falls associated with fronts pushing in from the SW all
turned to rain eventually in Penzance. I was living at Sennen at that
time, and during 1 journey to Redruth, we got stuck in snow with
drifts feet deep, when there was none at sea level in Mount's Bay,
where it was raining.

Most of Cornwall was sub-zero for several days during Feb 1991
although the lowest max at Penzance was +0.2°C. Both The Lizard
and Gwennap Head had at least one day below -2.0°C.
Penzance had a max of -1.1°C on both 12 and 13 Jan 1987 with
a min of -9.9°C in between, but again most of Cornwall was
much colder with maxes between -3 and -6°C.
The winters of 1985-86 and 1984-85 just missed, while that
of 1981-82 missed by a mile. There were, however, two consec-
utive ice-days on 31 Dec 1978 and 1 Jan 1979. The lowest
maxes in the winter of 1962-63 were all 0.0°C (actually,
32°F rounded to the nearest degree) on three separate days.
Before that Feb 1956 had one max of -1.7°C (i.e. 29°F)
while Jan 1947 had one of -2.2°C (28°F) which appears to
be the town's lowest.
