We are obviously going to need a prolonged easterly to bring in anything
really cold from that direction. I remember in the last week of January,
1986 the wind turned to the east after a prolonged spell of zonal
weather that had taken mild conditions deep into Europe. It took almost
a week of easterlies before really cold weather reached the UK, but it
did eventually arrive.
