I assume that there must be a lot of cloud, coupled with not much snow
cover, over southern Scandinavia and Russia? Otherwise their reluctance
to cool down is hard to understand.

Wait till Friday John (T+72) and then re-assess, the deep cold air hasn't
reached them yet!
