I see that Ken Cooke has noted mole activity in his report today. Over
the past week my wife and I have spotted mole activity everywhere
we've been on a massive scale - apart (touch wood) from our garden.
Is this in response to the frosts we've been experiencing?

David Mitchell. 2m bsl. Minor hill top. Tunnelshire.

Same here. B***dy things are making a huge mess of my met enclosure.
The yhave a 5 acre field to play in and they have to dig up my
enclosure!

OT sure, but if anyone knows a foolproof (preferably fairly humane)
way of discouraging the blighters let me know please ... I bought a
solar-powered mole scarer a couple of years back, that seemed to do
the trick for a while, but now it/they dig holes right next to it.
Grrr!!

My Dad used to get lots of badgers digging up his garden. He pinned a
wire
mesh down over the lawn. Within a few months the mesh was invisible and
it
is impenetrable by the badgers.

What about the lawn mower?

Not an issue. The soil level is now above the mesh. You have to stake it
right down, then it disappears within months.
