Well I'm just starting to wind down. Most normal business this week
binned at the airport.

Must have been an odd week for you Phil?

I said that 'our time will come' over the years
on usw during mild winters, and it certainly has this week. A cold
Easterly like I remember them (but didnt that cold pool zoom in from
Russia - even at 36-48h it didnt look particularly cold to the E
(unlike now with -10 to -30 NE of Moscow)).

You're right - for me it didn't seem to have that slow, inexorable build-
up for some reason, although I could be entirely wrong here.

So Ive seen snow reports
from Tunisia, Lisbon and other places over recent years and was really
wondering if it would come to London again! Will this Winter be a one
off ? Who knows ?

I still have a belief (even if there is a gradual upward trend in
temperature) that we can still up-and-down periods of warm and cold
winters, the 20-40 year ripple that is the NAO. We're being told that
things will warm up, but these models are based on what we know now.
Which won't be half as much as what we know in 20 years time. I still
hold a candle for more cold winters. I'm not denying global warming, just
thinking/hoping we can expect more interesting winters.

This year has been fascinating. In terms of pressure anomalies, at some
point I'd like to compare it to the past 20 years.
