Default Strange cloud structure associated with T.S. "Ivan"

"umbilical cord" from what may possibly be one very big infant hurricane!
Good picture...and that's what I thought it looked like too, Jon.

This seems to be getting its act together very early. I see a regular and
experienced poster on sci.geo.meteorology has gone as far as to say it will
be bigger than Frances!!! That's looking at a Cat 5 in time.

There's a very strange looking thin "rope" of cloud linking "Ivan" with
the African coast. See it at

The "rope" is getting on for 1000 miles long. From the corresponding IR
image it can be seen that it is low cloud. I suppose it is the result of
convergence but it is surprisingly well-defined yet very narrow over
such a long distance.

Norman.

Fascinating. Had me thinking "umbilical cord" !
