Just seen Philip's website. I think I have answered my own questions:-)
Still seems like we will have a nice September though.

Fine now but....

The Atlantic really is throwing all it's energy around at the moment.
Hurricane Frances is en-route to the US, Tropical Storm Ivan is the next
one
to watch and is expected to race across the Atlantic in the next few days.
The problem for forecasters in the UK is that we all know that this energy
has to go somewhere. Ex-Hurricanes have no problems blowing away blocking
systems in the Atlantic such as the one building over the UK.
The question isn't if, but when... once these systems complete the full
loop
and land on our shores in the next two weeks we'd better be ready for some
real weather action.

My Comment:
This happened in August, and went a long way
to
explain the very heavy rainfall we had.
