I totally 100% agree with this.

California not only needs more water, they also need more electricity
for
both agriculture and industry. Their electricity policies are actually
preventing them from attracting new industry. And, it's becoming ever
increasingly hard keep their existing industrial base (well, what
little
they have left of it).

It's really strange to see California running to the government for
handouts
and bailout money, but on the other hand nobody in California seems to
want
to work anymore. I suppose if you watch those TV commercials telling
you to
come to live in California that only makes sense if you're into
smoking pot
and sitting on the beach with a surfboard. However, you not going find
any
jobs anymore! What a great economic plan they have...surfing! Throw in
their
regulatory system that so broken it a wonder anyone still working at
their
job.

California now has to import an ever more increasing amounts of
energy.
California does not want to do any offshore drilling within 50 miles.
Can
you imagine the great wealth and kind of jobs that offshore drilling
operations would do for that state? Not only would they have a good
oil
industry to save them billions of dollars in trade deficits and create
more
jobs, but offshore also creates high paying high technology jobs.

Just go ask what a scuba diving welder makes these days? Just go ask
what
the helicopter pilot makes who has to fly that diver out to the
platform
makes? Just go ask what the mechanical engineers and pipefitters make
on
that offshore platform? The industrial jobs involved in those offshore
platforms is absolutely stupefying. Not only would this create great
new
jobs for California, but you then have lots of oil. With oil
production this
means that you not sending your money OUT OF California to somewhere
like
perhaps those places in the Middle East that want to blow you up. This
is
such a win win situation that can improve the lives of so many people
in
California, it just boggles the mind how the government doesn't even
think
about these things?

So, they are socialists, do not want to drill for oil, but, they sure
purchase a lot of oil. They do not want to generate their own
electricity
which again would keep money and jobs and industry. Now their plan is
to
knock on the Federal government's door for handouts? Wow, handouts for
California, that's a brilliant economic plan you folks have!!

How about the people of California decide to create some real wealth
by
creating their own electricity supplies, drilling for oil and fix
their
broken water supply system. That lack of water supply not only hurts
manufacturing, but is actually killing their agricultural industry
right
now.

Their agriculture industry used to be one of the best in the country.
With
affordable electricity rates and ample supplies of water some sectors
of
their agricultural industry can grow as much as four crops in one
year. That
water supply not only provides jobs but also provides food for hungry
and
needy people.

Simply put the California governor has dropped the ball so bad here
that is
a joke. Ample supplies of water, food and electricity should be a
national
priority of the California government. Failing to keep care of basic
necessities and infrastructure like water and electricity is simply a
complete failure of the government in the most basic requirements for
their
people.

California is simply sending jobs and money out of state to purchase
electricity from surrounding states (which often generates that
electricity
with coal). In other words they are sending enormous amounts of money
OUTSIDE of California. Not only does this suck money out of state, but
also
means they export jobs. More worse is California lack of electricity
or
decent rates means they have ZERO ZERO hope of attracting new
industry. Any
company that has half a brain will look at their electrical situation
and
run for the hills. If your business needs power...CA is the LAST place
you
would locate to!

This really is how one would expect socialist governments of eastern
bloc
countries to run their economy. The failure of basic infrastructure in
the state of California is not only a scandal, but downright
embarrassing to
anybody living there.

With ample and affordable electricity rates they can lead the country
in
things like high speed rail, and even electric cars. A few windmills
is not
going to power their high speed rail systems, nor is it going to power
a
steel industry. Nor will windmills provide enough power for those
electric
cars. I think electric cars are a great idea, but without the state
planning
for the future electric supplies, then how can they be legislating
electric cars, but not having electricity to run them? Boy, this is
just so
stupid.

California has chosen the road of socialism and does not understand
how to
create any true wealth anymore. It is that true wealth that will
provide
those hospitals and food and water and electricity for their needy
children.

They have a chance to lead the country here, but they're absolutely
making a
mess of things and cannot even get basic simple things like water and
electricity policies figured out.

Nuclear power is a high technology and high value industry that is
absolutely perfect for the state of California. Not only would the
additional
electricity be used for desalination of the ocean water. Not only
could
California then easily supply all the water they need but they could
become
an EXPORTER of water. The surrounding areas of California and Las
Vegas
and heck..even Nevada are starving for additional water supplies.
California's
proximity to the ocean is a strategic economic asset of one they don't
be
seen to willing to exploit (in fact they don't even seem to realize
that
exists).

It's absolutely amazing that California cannot get any kind of
approval to
build any kind of serious electrical generation. Those little
windmills are
never going to power a high speed rail system and a steel industry
that they
used to have, let alone a major push for desalination for increasing
their
water supplies.

Here is a plan for your guys:

To all the people California, get off your ass, build some basic
infrastructure things that humans need. You know things like basic
water and
electricity. Do some drilling of oil and save "billions" in trade
dollars
for the state.

All you're doing right now is pumping your money outside of California
and
causing more pollution by buying dirty energy from surrounding states
that
don't have the same regulations that you have.

The above is EXACTLY what the state of California needs to do. It is
without
question that California needs a major nuclear energy plan and policy.
This
energy supply would absolutely change the fortunes and turn around the
decline of that state. With ample food and water and electricity taken
care of
you then set the "NEXT" stage to lead the country with all kinds of
wonderful
clean technologies like electric cars, and supplying fresh water to
surrounding
thirsty people that could use more water...

The electricity problem in California, before Enron was making bundles,
was exacerbated by the politicians. They would not approve electricity
being bought on long term contracts. The spot market was just fine with
them. When they needed lots of juice, they had to pay spot market prices
and had no long term contracts with anybody. Well, you know what happens
to prices when everybody needs something at the same time. The
legislature in CA rivals DC in stupidity but I guess they danced a
little side step.

Someone needs to write a book about the rise and fall of California but
most are surfing I suppose.
