Here is a summary of the latest NWP output for noon on Sunday. Issued
0601z,
8/09/04.
The models show a potentially very wet and windy spell approaching for the
UK, with a deep low bringing unsettled weather for all.
ECMWF: http://64.246.48.81/pics/Recm1201.gif
Lows lie to the NE and west of the UK, with strong to gale force
westerlies
for all. The latter low deepens to the west of Scotland at T+144, with a
continuation of westerly gales for the UK. By day 7 the low fills over the
North Sea, with strong to gale force westerlies and northerlies over the
UK.
MetO: http://www.wetterzentrale.de/pics/Rukm1201.html
Complex low pressure lies to the north, with centres to the NE and WNW of
the UK; there's also a centre north of Northern Ireland. Strong winds are
affecting much of the UK as a result, with westerlies for Northern
Ireland,
southerlies for Scotland and SW'lies elsewhere. The winds become
westerlies
and NW'lies at T+144 as the main low moves to the SW of Norway.
GFS: http://64.246.48.81/pics/Rtavn1201.gif
A deep low is located to the west of Scotland, with SW'ly gales for much
of
the UK. 850hPa temperatures vary from +3C over Northern Ireland to +7C
over
SW England. A secondary low crosses Ireland at T+144, leading to
westerlies
and SW'lies for the UK. The winds become northerlies and westerlies at
T+168
as the parent low fills near Shetland, followed by northerlies for all on
day 8 as the low moves away to the NE. A new low deepens to the SW of
Iceland on day 9, with strong SW'lies for Northern Ireland and Scotland.
Elsewhere, winds are light SW'lies and westerlies due to a weak ridge. By
day 10 the ridge and low move eastwards, with strong to gale force SW'lies
and WSW'lies across the UK.
GEM: http://www.meteocentre.com/models/glb00_120.html
SW'lies cover the UK as the result of low pressure to the west. 850hPa
temperatures vary from +3C over northern Scotland to +7C over southern
England. The low deepens and moves NE'wards over the North Sea at T+144,
leadning to strong northerlies and westerlies for the UK.
