There is a small addon for Outlook Express called Outlook-QuoteFix
v0.91
that will solve the problem. I mentioned it in this ng a year or so

The simple cure would seem to be for people to stop using Google Groups
for posting to newsgroups. Can't see it happening, unfortunately.
