French thunderstorms - just like the old days

Wonder if we'll have this all summer?
That used to be my fear growing up - the night-time thunderstorm (so
why on earth did I go on to study meteorology?!). The French imports
would always seem to arrive at around 1am and would invariably have
one bolt within a km which would scare me witless. Every summer in the
80s we seem to be guaranteed one or two of these per summer if my
memory isn't failing me (quite possible) so it's nice to get the odd
rumble overnight (insert fnar fnar here) once in a while.
Today looks like a positive deluge for some places in the south-east.
Shame it hasn't done anything for my hayfever !
