Default Wind direction

I always had this "sense" that 90% of the time wind came from NW, W,
or SW.

Now I "sense" it's something like 70% of the time.

Wind direction nowdays, especially in the spring, seems to be come
more freqeuntly from easterly directions.

Just a sense I've got. Wonder if my senses are anywhere near
accurate.

.... Have a look at Philip Eden's site:-

http://www.climate-uk.com/
(Atlantic/Europe flow indices)

depends on the time of year - note the marked increase in
'westerliness' in February for example. For April specifically, the
change (in westerliness) over the past 20-odd years has been within a
fairly narrow band, compared with earlier decades.

The graphs are listed as being up to date to 2005, but Philip often
makes comments on these indices in his monthly summaries which are
posted into this newsgroup.
