I had a mate in Stoke when I was at Univ. and no kidding whenever I

Chin up, only another 7 months to wait till winter :-)
That reminds me of when I was doing a post-doc research job and I
used to have to travel up to Manchester quite a lot to the UMIST. The
couple of dozen times that I went it was either pouring down with
rain or cloudy, and it was always freezing cold, even in summer. Now
I am sure Manchester's climate is lovely but for once I thought, it
would have been nice to have seen the City without getting soaked and
chilled.
11:00 at Manchester Airport: 11°C, light rain showers.
Oh well, I must I have been very unlucky with the weather there.

I've never known it to be freezing cold in summer Nick. Bit chilly on
occasion perhaps :-)
Manchester is very mild compared to the upland areas surrounding it, which
can get properly cold.
+8.5C ATM here in Haytor at 1230, you'd hate it! :-)
