Default Obama to link auto emissions and mileage standards

It is about bl**dy time. The lesser Bush screwed you over good and
proper to make sure his mates in the oil industry got their bonuses. Too
bad it destroyed the auto industry. But their cars are mostly junk.

European and Japanese cars have been there and done that a decade ago.

Nothing should get less than 50 mpg and all
trucks should run on LNG. All freight should be hauled by trains and all
jet planes be grounded.

Certainly no general usage private saloon cars should average less than
50mpg now. European BMW diesel saloons are close to 60mpg. The only way
to encourage sensible behaviour is to gradually increase fuel tax.

It is no surprise that the countries with the most fuel efficient and
least polluting cars are also the ones with highest fuel tax.

The US has become addicted to cheap oil and will pay the price one day.
But so long as fuel is dirt cheap there will always be profligate waste.
I suspect it will only get sorted when there is a massive irreversible
oil price increase imposed from outside by supply side shortage. Not how
I would choose to do it but there you go.
