I lost my internet connection yesterday, again!
Anyway, the data logger has been running overnight attached to the
console and recorded nothing. *I can only assume that it is faulty,
and I guess I'll have to get on to Davis. *Thanks for your help, John.
I do wonder whether your Envoy unit got hit by a mains surge?
(Assuming that it was connected to the mains?)
But it is odd that Bulletin mode is apparently working OK on your main
console, while Archive mode isn't. Generally, if the logger is faulty
then neither work.
One last thing I'd be tempted to try: Fully power down the mains
console (ie remove both mains and battery power) and leave powered off
for at least 5-10 minutes - ideally longer. Then repower, check that
you hear 3 beeps etc.
There's on other oddity in your description: You've been writing that
the VCP driver is called CP2102... (ie in the Ports area of Device
Manager) whereas it normally appears as CP210x... Maybe this was just
a typo but it does make me wonder whether somehow there's still a
problem with the VCP driver.
There is of course nowadays a different mode that you can try for
connecting PC to USB logger, which is called USBXpress. I hesitate to
describe this because it can cause a lot of confusion and I wouldn't
recommend anyone else who might be reading this (is there anyone else
out there?) to try it. But since all else has failed it might be worth
a shot in this instance.
If you start the WL program and go to the Communications Port dialogue
under Setup and choose 'USB' and not Serial, as you will previously
have done, then you will initiate a process that will try to switch
the logger into USBX mode. A couple of warning messages may appear and
you may need to repeat the process until it's successful. And you may
also need to reboot your PC before the link works again. But it's just
conceivable that the logger will work in USBX mode while it wouldn't
in VCP mode. (NB You will no longer see a VCP entry under Ports in
Device Manager. Instead there will be a USBXpress entry under the USB
Controllers section.)
If you do need to go back to Davis then I'd be interested to hear the
outcome.

The Weather Envoy has always been battery powered...
I tried what you suggested, and although it said it had successfully
converted to a USB port, it makes no difference.
Now I have the data logger back in the Weather Envoy, the graphics on
the Bulletin window have gone up the shute again - nonsense barometer
reading, etc, and everything else blank.
I'll try and power everything down, but I have a feeling of doom about
all this.
