Default High temperatures in the Outer Hebrides

Hi Norman,

Just got back from a holiday in Skye/western Scotland.
On Wednesday 24th we were in Scourie (west coast Sutherland) and it was
wonderful. max. was 26C in that area (on car thermo) and even at 2100 in the
evening it was 22C. marvelous, clear blue sky watching the sun set from the
tent at circa 2230 local after a plate of freshly caught haddock and chips.

Mind you a week earlier on Skye a gale snapped our tent poles and we had to
make repairs!
That's Scotland for you :-)

The METARs from Stornoway have shown temperatures up to 24c this afternoon
which, I think, would be close to the June record. I then had a look at
the
Stornoway SYNOPs which tell a somewhat different story. SYNOP/METAR
temperature
comparisons for today a

0450z 12.5/13
0550z 13.6/16
0650z 14.9/16
0750z 15.9/17
0850z 16.2/19
1150z 18.9/22
1450z 21.3/23

The SYNOPs are from an AWS. I assume the METAR temperatures are from a
different source. Nevertheless, the size of the difference is surprising
unless
the two sets of instrumentation have quite different exposure.
