Apparently the flooding was exacerbated by the deforestation that has
occurred in Haiti resulting in mudslides as well asreducing the retention of
the water in the hills. The trees are used to produce charcoal. No doubt
this is a consequence of the islands undoubted poverty.


So what excuse have the cruise liner operators got for letting the
people die?
