This cool spell is beginning to threaten some of my local
Romsey records. Assuming the air temperature fails to
reach 21C (70F) by 0900Z tomorrow, then Sunday the
19th will become the 14th consecutive day with a max
below that figure, the longest such run in July since 1993
when there were 15, already eclipsing 2007 and 2008
with 10 days and 13 days respectively.

The wind is the other persistent element of note, as I am
constantly having to reposition our plant pots in mean wind
speeds of at least force 4 at some point on each day since
the 4th, that's 15 days. In fact, winds have blown just shy
of force 6 on 4 out of the last 6 days, culminating in the
highest gust of the month so far of 35kt at 1425Z today.
Next door's large green garden sack lifted onto his garage
roof around that time.

Rainfall is nothing to write home about. Despite lurching
onto our July average yesterday, I suspect 44mm is rather
lower than most places in the UK, especially as the Romsey
2009 thunderstorm deflector is working to perfection... still
only 3 rumbles heard on 2 days. The latest in a long line of
near misses included storms to the SE last Thursday evening
and to the west on Friday. Perhaps I need my ears syringed!
