Well, after so much cloud over the last 10 days or so, at least there
is some sunshine, but very windy. Force 5 here, but a good force 6 on
west facing coasts with gusts well 40mph. (There is a regular reader
of USW camping out above Gwenver (near Land's End) and I've just
received a call to say the tent is just about hanging on!)
Summer gave the impression of coming early here, 29/5 - 5/6 were
glorious, with near record temperatures on Scilly. Even 5th June saw
prolonged sunshine and 19.8C, when there was snow on the Pennines, the
cool air struggled, finally arriving on the 6th.
The strong westerly flow of August may have given near normal rainfall
& and marginally above normal temperatures (+0.3C currently), *but
it's been very cloudy overall, with the highest temperature just
22.8C. Coasts getting far more sunshine than a mile inland.

Apart from 1 very brief shower (0.1mm) dry with good spells of
sunshine since 09:00. The blustery wind is offshore, and with a good
deal of shelter from that direction it's now (14:10) 18.2C, which in a
sunny spot, out of the wind, is fine. As it is at the Minack
www.minack.com/webcams.htm .
Very different on the north coast, and the west coast of the Lizard,
where it's around 16C and gusting 45-55mph on the cliff top. (Island
St Ives gust of 48 knots at 14:13).
Surf big, blown out, & dangerous.
