Looking at radar and satellite imagery for midday it seems most active in
the south. Where is the heavy rainfall that was expected over Cumbria by
now, for example? Interesting orographic patch over south Wales. Satellite
imagery indicates strong rearward-sloping ascent in SW approaches and
weaker ascent further north over Ireland.
There seems something very stange with the radar output in that area.
The one covering Southern Ireland seems to consistently show markedly
lower rainfal intensity than the one covering the SW approaches, so much
so that you can clearly see the curvature of the boundary between the two
radar sweeps in the imagery.
I wonder what is causing this, is the Irish radar simply not picking up
the more distant precipitation properly or is there an imbalance in the
calibration of the two radars?
