I would love to have Linux as my operating system but everytime I install
the latest Mandrake or Red Hat. it goes horribly wrong and nothing works
except the desktop (i.e., no wireless network, no broadband, no surround
sound, no dvd player, no tv player etc- a dead home theatre pc whereas xp
runs brilliantly without crashing).

One day I will crack it but until then I will have to make do with
micro****e xp pro.

Hmm... this is awfully OT - mail me if you want a hand; i've managed to
get most of what you mention up and running - though you are right, it's
a much more hands-on process than for Windows. If you just want to get
up and running quickly, use Windows - if you want to use a taylor-made,
tight and mega fast OS, and don't mind the hard work, Linux is the best.
