You'd have been looking _precisely_ over my head in Lee, *and on down
the Western Solent like me. So that's about 55 miles line of sight,
excellent. From where I was, down on the beach, there is nothing
further to be seen; it's nice to be on the limit occasionally. *

I wonder if you can ever see France from the Purbecks? ISTR this
coming up before and someone saying the hills were *just about* too
low, but it was a narrow thing. Don't think it's that much more than
55 miles from Purbeck to Cherbourg, maybe 60 or 70?
