Wreek!! There's little hope.
Actually, the main thrust of Joe's broadcast is that the names should
be kept on the hurricanes when they go extra tropical. Well they are,
but an "Ex" is usually added as a prefix to the hurricane name by most
people and agencies. Joe presents it as some kind of life-saving,
original idea.
In terms of Accuweather's part in the predictions, after saying that
the National Hydrological Centre "does good job", he then goes on to
say that everyone in jumping into Accuweather's boat as regards what
is going on. It's a very typical Accuweather/*******i ploy. Like many
others, Accuweather/*******i have predicted this well. however, unlike
NOAA, it is accuweather that are trying to grab headlines. Doing this
now will allow them to trumpet accuracy when they get longer-range
forecasts wrong - which they do; often.
The broadcast's tone is very reminiscent of Corbyn's certainty that
he's right and becomes sort of unlistenable after a while. Both also
need publicity to function. I'd much rather both kept and published
comprehensive and independently monitored accuracy statistics instead
of shouting the odds about any percieved success. Only then do
forecasters, or forecasting organisations, deserve respect. One day,
you'll understand that Lawrence, instead of presenting this stuff as
believable.
Why not keep a running total of his forecasts and successes?
