Yes, this was a dropsonde measurement. I think the same applies for
the 888 mbar of Gilbert (that was not in Jamaica, but over the
Caribbean Sea).

The lowest actual reading on land by a barometer is probably the Labor
Day Storm (September 1935, Florida Keys). That was 892 mbar.
