Default [WR] round-up 21st Dec, West Moors/East Dorset

... (21/2110Z): very light rain/snow - but slushy covering
disappeared. OAT stable at around 0.8; imagery would suggest we're
not going to get too much more.

.... just to round up after that: actually, between 2120 & 2200, we had
a period of moderate *rain*, gradually with sleety elements, which
then became light and 'proper' snow for a very short time before the
whole lot finished by midnight.

The only place this morning/Tuesday 22nd/ (first light) where snow has
settled is on *previously* frozen paving etc., and some shed roofs -
generally, everything was just too wet, and as the cloud broke around
dawn (at which time OAT was above zero), it all froze solid.
Temperature by 0900Z -0.7°C.

Total rainfall measured in 24hr to 0900Z/22nd (mix of rain, rain-snow
and a very little snow) was 8.3 mm. Good thing that we had just enough
warm air to keep the PPN liquid, as if only half of that had fallen as
snow, conditions would have been as chaotic as further north.

As of 22/1020Z, a fine, sunny morning: foggy first thing (never less
than 600M), but within past 30 mins, the fog has thinned (still 1km),
but more importantly, the OVC ST has now dispersed. OAT still below
freezing though at -0.7°C.

Martin.
