Sounds like I've left behind a bizarre day to say the least down
south. The freezing rain this morning sounds normal compared to this!
Travelled north today , snow cover more or less continuously from
Winchester to just north of Birmingham. Deep snow cover, of the sort
I've only experienced once since the 80s (travelling through the
Basingstoke area last February) from Micheldever area to the Goring
Gap.
Shame (for snow fans in Hampshire and Berkshire) about the onshore
winds, it's that that seems to have made the difference.

Don't worry about us Nick, an hour after my first post it's still hail
and rain alternately, several more thunderclaps and flashes too half
an hour ago. All surfaces are covered in a trecherous slushy/hail mix
and the air temperature is down tro 1.6 deg C now. It's 1 cm thick now
on my wheely bin lid (and I'm not going out in it!)

Most unpleasant though, if the truth be told.
