Tutorials for absolute beginners (me)

I would like to learn more about the weather, and have followed this
group for the last 3 years or so. The trouble is, when you
knowledgeable people talk about GFS runs and the like, my poor old
head begins to hurt, as I am still a raw beginner.
Without trying to offend anyone here, please could a kind soul point
me in the direction to learn about weather and how I interprete the
links to maps and the like that are sometimes posted?
I have searched around the 'Net many times to try not to ask, but I
have decided that it is now time to ask here where the experts live.
Would anyone be prepared to share knowledge, links, anything, to help
me, a very willing and interested beginner please?
... have a look at this list he-

and see how you get on. It's difficult I know when you're starting out
with all this 'techie-talk', where to go. The FAQ series, if I'm honest
(as the person who wrote most of it), assumes a certain level of basic
knowledge, but there is stuff in there which might help: the 'Search'
facility could also help.
The main FAQ link is:-

I still get asked questions 'off list' to my email address which I try and
answer as best I can, and can undertake to do so if you prefer ... the
response might be delayed on some occasions though depending upon my
personal circumstances.
Martin.
