Ice cover isn't far off normal at the moment.


It doesn't seem to say what range of years the "normal" cover is
averaged over. Whether it's, say, the last ten years or the last forty
years could make an enormous difference.

Reading down normal is averaged over the years 1965 to 1986. A strange
period to use but I'm sure they have a reason why!
