Default I like Dan

Ah but I'll bet your Internet chess ratings are sky high with not
being able to get into the University, Trevor! *))

I did do a long icy walk up the road this morning under beautiful clear
blue skies, at -5, and waited for this thing called a "bus". It's
amazing. They have this thing called a "timetable", but seems to be
largely a work of fiction. However, they don't wait for you at the
"stop", even if you phone them in advance to say you want to catch it.
What's more it seems obligatory for all the other "passengers" to have
colds, and to sneeze without covering their mouths. You have to pay the
driver - in exact change, if possible - an exorbitant fare, far more
than the petrol would have been. Then coming back you have to go
through the whole rigmarole again, except it's even worse, because
these buses don't leave when you want them to leave, but again only
according to their "timetable", and even then they only run every two
hours, and not at all after 5.30. I then had the long slippery walk
down hill, although it had at least warmed up to -3 by then, but with a
good wind, chill in my sore ear, which now hurts so much I have to open
a bottle of wine, strictly for medicinal purposes.

Having said all that, it wasn't quite as bad as I'd feared.

Down to -5.7C at 20.59.
