Default South West Record Low Temperatures Tonight?

"Robin Nicholson" wrote ...

I was wondering about this just now! At the mo it is 'only' -3 at
Hilton whereas it was lower last night at the same time and clearly
someway to go before I get down to -9.2C last February.

OAT changes far more than I thought so unless something happens I
have
some way to go I think. I wonder what Martin Rowley thinks ( to my
south east).

.... Sorry for tardy response: haven't really been following events too
closely, but a very quick look ... the pressure is building from the
NW, but the pressure to the SE (in association with the fading low
feature) is not recovering at the same rate. Also, the isobaric
curvature is changing from cyclonic to neutral. I wonder if there's
going to be enough (albeit gentle) overturning within the boundary
layer to knock the tops (or bottoms!) of the expected minima, at least
for us?

At the risk of becoming boring, we've not got the snow cover (apart
from patchy remnants) that others have, so no help there. Our current
temperature is -1.6°C, having been down to -3 a couple of hours ago. I
would expect that it will resume a downward slide: very roughly -6 by
morning (here)?

Hurn should be colder (eventually), though perhaps not as cold as
the -8 of this morning.

Can't comment elsewhe with a better snow cover, temperatures should
tumble nicely as long as the wind doesn't interfere too much.

I am getting soft. I have just made a loaf simply to scatter outside
tomorrow. I spotted 'my' local Robin outside towards dusk and had a
massive guilt attack. No other feed available before someone says its
the wrong thing to do!

.... We've been feeding for several days now: all of a sudden, the bird
world is loving us! Don't forget water as well - that's often the
problem in this sort of weather.

Martin.
