Out of the town that is. The only place in west Cornwall basically
free of snow is around St Ives and Hayle, where right on the north
coast, the wind off the warm(?!) sea caused the precipitation on the
night of 5th/6th to be very sleety. The accumulations were only a
fraction of that just to the west & northwest of Penzance.

snow conditions just out of Penzance on the St. Just road late moring
today. I think it's the 1st time a real snow cover has persisted here
for 3 consecutive days since 1987. This despite the maximum
temperatures over the last 3 days being 4.4, 4.6, and 4.8
respectively, which rather demonstrates the significant depth of the
original snow cover, and just how cold the ground is.

In fact the temperatures have not been particularly low here (yet?).
The lowest max during this spell, 4.4C on 6th, being the 28th lowest
max since 1991. (The lowest max being -0.5C on 1st January 1997.) Last
nights minimum of -4.1 being the 6th lowest since 1991.

However, the persistence of the snow cover, and the icy conditions,
are the worst since 1987. There was a further heavy snow shower around
13:30 today - that wasn't meant to happen. It settled, and has
persisted in the shade.
