Does this ng provide a counselling service for all those poor snow
lovers?

Just lay back and think of Spring.

I suppose the silver lining in the Atlantic clouds is that winters
with a cold first half and mild second half tend to have much more
reliable spring/summers than those which stay cold into the second
half of winter, i.e late Jan/Feb. In my lifetime, those winters which
had significant mild spells late in the winter i.e. 1981/82, 1996/97
and 2008/9 had half-decent springs/summers, while long late cold
spells, developing in Jan and sticking around into Feb, such as
1985-87 and also apparently 1979 and 1963, tended to have pretty
rubbish spring/summers.

So maybe on reflection it's best to grit one's teeth for the next few
weeks of dark evenings, short days and a lack of snow cover (though
maybe the wind will be south-easterly enough to preserve it....), in
the hope that the spring and summer will be better....
