[obs] brighton to Horsham and back
I left the coast at Shoreham at ten this morning under heavy rain and relatively warm air. Over the south downs the rain varied from light to heavy, no sign of sleet, until well into the low weald. At Bolney Hill on the A/M23 it became heavy snow and was settling on the carriageway. At Horsham on the High Weald the snow was heavy and thickly settling, about 4cm.
It snowed continually, and consistantly heavily while I was there between 11am and 3pm, providing an even covering on all surfaces and trees.
I left Horsham at 3:30pm through thick snow, drove south through white countryside and steadily falling snow, until suddenly at a line just north of Cowfold the snow stopped falling and there was no sign of it having snowed at all, the light rain that replaced the snow lessened the further south I got, over the south downs, no evidence of any snow having fallen, and no sitting snow left from previous snowfall. South of the downs on the coastal strip, warm air and light drizzle, overcast.
