2nd batch of Flooding - S Cornwall
Here in Penzance the wind was stronger than at high tide yesterday. Gwennap
Head (near Land's End, and probably the most exposed site in England) was
reporting Force 11 at 18:00 GMT compared with Force 9 at the same time
yesterday. The wind has dropped markedly in the last hour.
The tide was just as high, but fortunately the swell was less than the
enormous, almost freak, conditions yesterday. As a result there has been
further flooding in much the same areas, but the sea defences have not taken
such an extreme pounding. Just as well after yesterday damage, as they must
have been weakened. All this is 2nd hand information as the whole sea-front
area is effectively closed off, and with the strength of the wind at high
tide it was not really possible to stand up down there.
So hopefully no fresh severe damage to the sea defences, but I won't really
know until tomorrow.
