WOW WOT A SCORCHER!

Max 8.7C, above 5C for 5hrs.

First time seriously and for an extended period of time above 5C
since early December. There where a couple of days in Jan with maxs
about 6C but only very briefly, an hour if that.

Family reports a glorious bright sunny and warm day. I missed all but
the sunrise in a rather grey, foggy, damp and cold Sunderland.

The MODIS image shows the snow still over fells around us and some
still on the tops of the Lake District peaks with dense fog over the
east and
midlands:

Sunny and cloudless all day here, max of 6.5C.
There was a hole in the cloud covering pretty much just the
Greater Manchester area which stayed in the same place all day.
Places not so many miles away weren't so lucky and will
have stayed gloomy and overcast all day.
