If I remember correctly, I think it was in mid-February 1983 I was
living with my parents in the hills just north of Dover. We had a week
or so of NE winds with frequent Snow/Hail showers. We must have had
well over a foot of snow in the garden. I believe this snowfall was
very isolated, just a couple of miles on the sea front there was
considerably less. Does anyone remember this period [have I got the
dates right]?

Pretty much ... 7-9 Feb 1983. I remember we got one or two
heavy snow showers in Luton at the time, but no more than 1cm,
and it melted in the sunshine between the showers.

The feed off the southern North Sea to east Kent was cut off
on the 9th ahead of a southward-moving occlusion which finally
gave us a 10-12cm fall over the Chilterns which stayed on
the ground for the best part of two weeks.

I have a particularly vivid memory of that month as I'd
just started on the radio (LBC) a few days before.
