My readings seem comparable to others posted on this NG, such as those from
Epping, Cheltenham etc.

Not in terms of the monthly maximum.

I have spoken to Philip Eden about my 'high' values. I do have a south
facing sheltered garden and he reckons that certain aspects can 'cook' on
sunny, calm days. This does not explain why my values are high at this time
of year when the sun's strength is weak, or the winter. My thermometers have
been calibrated and are the MetO approved sheathed min & max type placed in
a Stephenson Screen.

Even so, something still sounds 'off'.
