Default What the 'Eck is going on?

and in this one the ice is still expanding past its average peakwhen a
decline should have started.

Please someone explain this to me as I'm confused



The current cold spell in the Barents Sea has caused a rapid increase of
ice there. As it's only recently formed it will be much thinner than it
should be for the time of year and so won't last long once the weather
changes.
