WTF is going on?

I'll bet this is a real cry wolf scenario

Not on the higher roads Fred, I'd imagine there'll be no chance of getting
over any higher routes soon as colder air is getting sucked into the
system and heads southwards. The towns and cities might well get hammered
tonight. The potential for a severe blizzard and total whiteout conditions
warrants the warnings. It reminds me a lot of the conditions at the tail
end of February 2001, but this system is more vigarous - if 1 or 2ºC
warmer to begin with.
I'm not sure the eastern half of southern Scotland will fair worse than
the western half mind you. I'd have thought it would be the other way
about.
Alex.

And, just after saying that, the warning area has moved slightly further
west to include my own area...

"Rain and sleet will quickly turn to snow this evening and become prolonged
and very heavy at times and persist into the night. The snow will quickly
drift in the strong to gale force North wind with blizzard conditions
developing at times. Over upland areas severe blizzards will develop with
severely reduced visibility at times. Snow accumulations will vary largely
across the region with 15cm and severe drifts in places, especially on the
east side of the Clyde valley. Over upland parts of eastern Lanarkshire 25cm
of snow could accumulate with deep drifts. Some roads liable to become
impassable and some interruptions to power supplies are possible"

I'm on the east side of the Clyde valley and damn close to eastern
Lanarkshire, it does seem like a repeat of the 2001 blizzard is in store!
