Default Thick ash cloud east Hampshire?

Just heard on the radio a widespread fall of ash, accompanied by light

Can anyone confirm this? Sounds like the ash was falling from the sky
like snow from the reports, though that could be exaggeration.

NE Hampshire, a very red sun just before sunset (a few degrees above the horizon). The
rest of the sky has gone very grey and there is a dull greyish colour to the light in
general. It reminds me a bit of the light during an eclipse.
