Default Ash cloud and sunset

The sun has just set behind a bank of stratus on the horizon. Above is
a strange striated luminesence in yellowy red. Most than likely ash at
a concentration above 2 mg of particles per cu metre, the critical
upper tolerance apparently for aircraft. Not long I expect before more
airspace is closed.

Indeed I did watch it again, the sun setting between the clouds. Very
red it was compared with yesterday.
This is open to interpretation because surely some of the ash will
have been washed out by the rain here today in the Southwest?
It is more likely to be a political statement.
Everybody's talking about a new world in the morning, as dear old
Roger Whittaker used to sing.
