Temperature
With a monthly mean temperature of 16.0C, this has been the warmest
June in Coventry since 2006 (17.0C), which was of course the warmest
June in Central England since 1826.
Although rather cool mid-month, only 9 June months have been warmer in
Coventry than 2010 in the past seventy years (1940, 1950, 1960, 1976,
1982, 1992, 2003, 2004, 2005 and 2006.
June 2010 has been 1.5C warmer than the city’s 30-year average
temperature, though the first six months of 2010 still averaged 0.2C
below normal.
Rainfall
..June 2010 (49.2mm) has been drier than 2009 (51.6mm) but wetter than
2008 (37.2mm).
Even so, only four June months have been drier than 2010 in Coventry
since 1996 (2000, 2002, 2006, 2008).
The Met Office have reported that the first six months of 2010 has
been the driest first half of the year since 1929 in north-west
England. Here in Coventry however, it has been wetter this year
(282.8mm) than last year (262.7mm) in this period!
In fact we have had 18 wetter first six months of the year in Coventry
since 1929, so certainly no such record here!
Sunshine
This has been the sunniest June (247.8hr) in Coventry since 1996
(268.6hr), and the sunniest month at any time of the year since July
2006 (275.3hr).
Days of interest during June 2010 included:
• 8th The wettest day of the month (16.2mm) was the wettest June day
in Coventry since 2007 (69.9mm).
• 22nd This was the sunniest day (15.0hr) of any month in the city
since June 1997 (15.5hr).
