Ice bomb!
I've just had a call from someone in Flash, about 9 miles SW of here. He said a
large lump of ice had just landed about 20 feet from where he was working, with
a noise like a car door slamming. It made a dent several inches deep in the
ground.
No doubt it came from an aircraft that had picked up some icing in the middle
level overcast. The poor fellow was a bit shaken up. As he put it, if it had
hit him he wouldn't have been telephoning me.
