38.7 mm fell 1800-1800Z on 1st Oct 2010.
Two things to note:
(1) This 1800 to 1800Z period actually covered the rainfall event in
its entirety for a change.
(2) 12 mm of the total fell on 30 Sep. which has consequences for the
reporting of monthly rainfall on this occasion.
This was the sixth highest 1800-1800Z total I have recorded in Wembury
since starting in 1983.
Here are the other higher 1800-1800Z totals:
48.6 mm 25 Aug 1986
45.1 mm 26 June 2006
42.7 mm 20 Dec 1989
40.0 mm 19 May 1996
39.8 mm 11 Oct 1993

We seem much more prone to large rainfall events down here Len,
eventhough I'm only 19m ASL
I record rainfall @ 0900, & my highest 0900-0900 totals this century
a-
84.5mm on 13 Nov 2002
78.9mm on 26 June 2006
65.2mm on 24 April 2009
(On this day 200mm+ fell on the north Penwith moors, with cars swept
off road, and 2 people drowned)
62.8mm on 14 Sept 2000
62.5mm on 31 December 2002
St Ives - on the deluge prone N cornwall coast, has had 2 days
100mm, major flooding on both occasions. The 2nd time just after the
new multi million pound flood defence scheme opened, and spectacularly
failed!
